Die Dozentur für Entwerfen ist eine Dozentur die die Entwurfslehre an der Fakultät für jeweils 1 Jahr unterstützt. Die Dozentur wird gemeinschaftlich von den Lehrstühlen und Lehrgebieten Bauplan, Gebäudelehre, Raumgestaltung und Wohnbau getragen. Die Dozentur erhält in diesem Jahr Lieven Nijs [BLAF architecten, Gent]. Mit der Gastdozentur wird ein Entwurfstudio eingerichtet, welches in diesem Jahr unter dem Namen studio BAU auftritt.
Studio statement:
BAU stands for ‘the act of building’, as well as for ‘Building As Usual’.
Our aim is to challenge ‘bad habits’ – conventions that resist to necessary changes – by understanding their genealogy, and by exploring the speculative possibilities of design; to address issues of land and housing, and to research on typology, tectonics and construction, by thinking through architectural space.

Im Rahmen des Studios wird ein M1 Projekt angeboten:
The M1 project starts in October 2023. It is dedicated to a design for shelter housing in Dampoortwijk, Gent. The M1 Project is part of the program “Jongeren maken de stad“ in the framework of Ghent European Youth Capital nomination for 2024. Two Kick off days will introduce the project in Gent on October 16th and 17th and the projects will be part of the Design Manifestation Week in Ghent from March 25th-29th in 2024. The Kick off meeting involves lectures about the history and typology of Dampoort quarter. It is dedicated to the “Gentse Poortwijken“ and the typology of “Begijnhof“ and “Beluik“. The project involves social actors in the Dampoort district, who dedicate their work to workshops, neighborhood kitchens or also food banks. The studio investigates on different forms of housing, e.g. “robust housing“ and other concepts that request a broader reflection on cohousing and collective ways of living together.
